Meaning of Dreams

I dream a lot. Maybe too much.

Most of my dreams consist of reiterations of the day before or to come, random premonitions, and vivid horror. This results in me feeling rather restless, despite sleeping so-and-so hours.

Although I dream a lot, I have never questioned the meaning behind my dreams … until today.

The Dream

In my dream, my friend Ariel caught a sickness and I visited her in the hospital. After she woke up, I asked her if she was alright and she laughed it off. I left. I then found myself washing my hair when a foot-long sized, yellow-orange snake falls out of it and washes down the drain. It turns out, every time I washed my hair, a snake would fall out. The size became larger the longer the interval between my showers. I eventually found snake eggs in my hair and pulled them out and let them wash down the drain with the rest of the snakes. The eggs looked like fermented pinto beans with the stickiness of natto.

I told Ariel that she was sick in my dream and it turns out that she has actually been sick for the past week.

Symbols

I broke the dream down to 3 major symbols.

  1. sickness / illness
  2. snakes
  3. eggs (beans?)
1. Sickness / Illness

Since I wasn’t the one with the sickness, I don’t think the meaning would have been the same if it was.

To dream that you or others are sick denotes discordance and trouble in your life. It may signal a part of yourself that needs to be healed, either physically or mentally. Perhaps you are wallowing in your own self-pity. You need to quit feeling sorry for yourself. -dream moods

2. Snakes

The snake could mean quite a few things. I think the snake in my dreams most closely resemble the fertile snake.

The fertile snakes symbolize fertility, birth, death, and resurrection. -the dream tribe

The element of the snake also seemed to give some meaning.

The Aboriginal Rainbow Serpent lives in a waterhold and is related to fertility and life-giving powers.

Water, for instance, is fluid therefore often equated with emotion and intuition. -the dream tribe

3. Eggs (Beans?)

There is a meaning that links up with the fertile snakes.

The Cosmic Serpent winds itself around an egg, clearly a symbol of fertility and rebirth, as well as creation of the universe. -the dream tribe

Eggs could represent a lot of different things, such as prosperity, fertility, and even marriage. I thought this was too broad, so I looked up beans instead.

Apparently, beans are a bad omen. Good thing I did not eat them.

This is a bad dream. To see them growing, omens worries and sickness among children. Dried beans, means much disappointment in worldly affairs. Care should be taken to prevent contagious diseases from spreading. Dreaming of eating them, implies the misfortune or illness of a well loved friend… -dreaming the dream

Interpretations?

Most of the symbols in my dreams represented fertility, sickness, and misfortune. I am not sure if my dreams are directed towards me or telling me something about someone else.

An interpretation of this dream may be that the snake eggs represent my own disease of self-pity. The snakes continuing to hatch and grow with every cycle represents each of my passing days, feeling sick and sorry for myself. The snakes growing larger as I drag on. Only assholes feel sorry for themselves. My ridding of the eggs would represent me moving on and getting over this endless cycle of sorrow.

My analysis was pretty shallow. From the initial results, I decided that this was not something to be dwelved deeper into, for the sake of my mentality and well-being.

Thoughts

I am terrified of snakes. I shall keep watch and be careful. Thanks to this, I have acquired an interest for dream interpretations. Maybe I’ll read a book about it. Any suggestions?
